Harold was born in Leyawiin Castle. The son of a chamber maid, and an unknown father, he grew up in the streets of the Southern city among the many Argonians who reside there. He became firm friends with them and earned the name Argonian-without-a-tail. He was tutored by Argonian teachers and developed a close bond with his street brothers and sisters.

As he grew into manhood, he began working in the castle, rising in the ranks of the household staff. Intelligent, but with the ability to keep secrets he was an obvious choice as chief steward.

However. Harold was harbouring a secret that he found hard to bear. Being so intimately in touch with the castle and its workings had shown him the dark side of the ruling family. There deep seated prejudice toward Argonian’s, and there systematic torture of many of that race. Harold was determined to confront the Count but held back at the behest of his mother.

For four years he served a noble family he hated, but when his mother passed away, he held back no more. He confronted the rulers of Leyawiin, and was promptly dismissed. He took his campaigning to the streets and as a result was, imprisoned, tortured and finally banished from his home town.

Harold became a campaigner to end Argonian slavery throughout Tamriel. He frequently entered Leyawiin, risking death to help Argonians in need. During once such visit he was attacked by thugs, probably acting on behalf of the duke, he almost certainly would have died, if a wandering mage called Marimar had not intervened.

Missing his home he took to drink, bar room fights and occasional thievery. That was until the same wandering mage sought him out and told him a story of betrayal and redemption. Hearing that the land he loved so much was under threat was enough. Harold of Leyawiin became a Night Hunter that day.
